We rode the Staten Island Ferry today.
This is the best deal in New York. A free ferry ride from Manhattan's financial district to Staten Island.
We took Subway #1 from the Port Authority Transit Center to South Ferry, which is the terminus of the line. From the subway exit, we walked to the ferry terminal.
It was sunny today. A little chilly in the 50's with a strong breeze. Brrr.
We rode the Adrew J. Barberi, one of the older ferries in service. This was a single decker.
On the ride to Staten Island, it is best to be on the deck to the rear of the ferry to get the best view of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.
We got a great view of the Statue of Liberty. We viewed it from afar, realized it is huge.
This is a view of Manhattan's skyline.
On our way back to Manhattan, we had the pleasure of meeting a local man commuting on the ferry. He gave us some great tips on where to take pictures on the ferry. He first told us to stand in the back of the ferry to take pictures of Staten Island and the Verrazano Bridge. Ghe informed us to take a picture of the Statue of Liberty from the rear. Later, he walked us to the front deck to take more pictures. Unfortunately, the deck was closed.
