The museum is big.  I really did not realize how large the museum was until I entered and walked through the various exhibits.  Hallways and corridors showcasing art ranging from ancient ruins to impressionist paintings.   Admittedly, we got lost a few times.  We spent one afternoon at the museum. The GE Building is the home of NBC and its studios.  The building is 70 floors.  The Top of the Rock is the famous observation deck on the top floors of the Rockefeller Center. Sunny with a slight breeze, 68 degrees.  A perfect day for a bike ride.We rode the subway from Times Square to Columbus Circle.  Columbus Circle is one of the main entrances to Central Park. We rented our bicycles just outside of the entrance to Central Park.   There are many companies that rent bicycles outside of the park. I would not say deluxe but it was clean and fairly spacious. The PH is a new hotel, but the building itself is the old Alladin hotel.  The room was updated.  we had a view of the pool. Marukai and Don Quijote.We had Coedo Beer on our trip to Kawagoe.  The beer is brewed in Kawagoe. The Beniaka was tasty.  It is named after a type of potato grown in Kawagoe.  Yes, the beer uses sweet potato as an ingredient.Unfortunately, I have only seen the Ruru and Kyara on the shelves. A 15 minute walk from Hase Dera.The walk in the cool autumn air was pleasant.  We were still pretty close to sea level but as we walked inland it started to get cooler.Kotoku-in is known for its statue of the Great Buddha (Daibutsu). Our destination was the ancient capitol of Kamakura.  We got off at Fujisawa.  Fujisawa is over one hour away from Tokyo station.  It is mostly an industrial town. On our trip to Tsukiji, we played the role of the ignorant tourist as we walked through the wholesale area of Tsukiji in the morning.  The new rules discourage touring the wholesale or middle market.  We were the speed bump of the workers, albeit polite and conscientious speed bumps. The other "must do" on our plans was to have Jindaiji Soba.  Jindaiji Soba is hand rolled and cut.  What makes this soba special is that is made from buckwheat harvested from the region which is mixed with local spring water.  Our soba was a thicker cut.  The soba was fairly firm with a little texture. Did you ever wonder how the streets are kept free of snow?Echigo Yuzawa has access to a hot spring.  The hot water from the hot springs flows through under the street in pipes.  The hot water is then, sprinkled intermittently to melt any snow. Yes, it snowed on our trip to Echigo Yuzawa.  Watching the snow drift down was a soothing, comforting sight.  Enjoy the video.    We had a few members that experienced snowfall for the first time.  They were awestruck.There is something about snow that seems to make everything it touches so pristine. This is the longest day as most of us usually wake up around 3AM (8AM HST). It's a battle to stay up until 10PM or later so that we have normal sleep patterns for the rest of the trip. The dashi are impressive. I am amazed how the dashi are maneuvered through the city streets avoiding light poles and power lines.  Often there is a person manned on the roof of the dashi to navigate through the streets.  That is a job I would not like to have.Sounds like a job for the "low man".

Here is a video from the daytime at the Kawagoe Matsuri.The dashi (mountain carts) are about two stories high.  Each neighborhood cares for its dashi.  It is a source of pride as the community cares for the dashi and performs at the annual festival.This dashi was on display at one of the neighborhood shrines. Literally, Kashiya Yokocho means candy alley.  The alley was lined with about twenty different shops selling candy ranging from Hershey Chocolate bars to old fashioned Japanese candy.
